Connecting, preserving, and empowering the Afghan diaspora community across the San Francisco Bay Area ? from San Francisco and Oakland to San Jose and the East Bay.
The SF Bay Area Chapter of Gurbat Cultural Association serves Afghan diaspora communities across the San Francisco Bay Area; a region home to a vibrant, rapidly growing Afghan population in cities from San Francisco and Oakland to San Jose and Fremont tricities area as well as tri-valley area of East Bay.
The Gurbat Cultural Association - SF Bay Area Chapter was formally established in 2022, born out of a shared vision to unite, serve, and empower the Afghan diaspora community across the San Francisco Bay Area. In a landmark general body meeting that brought together community members from across the region, a retired Army Colonell Alhaj Shirzai Wardak was elected by an overwhelming consensus as the founding President of the association; a testament to the deep trust and respect the community holds for him. Mr. Wardak's election was not merely a formality; it was a recognition of over 25 years of dedicated service in major non-profit community organizations, his proven leadership, and his tireless, selfless efforts toward uniting the Afghan community under a common identity and purpose. He currently serves as Finance Officer at the Ibrahim K.I. Center ? a thriving non-profit at the heart of the SF Bay Area ? bringing with him a wealth of organizational expertise, financial stewardship, and a deep-rooted passion for community advancement. Under his guidance, the association has grown steadily into a respected and active voice for Afghan-Americans across the Bay Area. The general body also elected the following distinguished individuals to serve on the Board of Directors: Abdul Rahman Mayar, Mansoor Rahmanzai, Masoom Ramzi, Hamed Nazar, Abdul Shokor Rohani, Dost Mohammad Qayoumi, and Fareed Shirzai Wardak.
Special recognition is due to Mr. Abdul Rahman Mayar, whose tireless dedication and genuine passion for community service have been instrumental in building the foundation of this organization. From its earliest days, Mr. Mayar took it upon himself to champion the association's mission ? actively promoting Gurbat Cultural Association throughout the broader Afghan community of the San Francisco Bay Area and personally encouraging countless community members to join and participate. His outreach efforts, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to the organization's growth have left a lasting mark on what GCA has become today. Mr. Hamed Nazar has equally served as a pillar of strength ? providing steadfast financial support that has enabled the organization to stand firmly on its feet and pursue its mission without interruption. We are deeply indebted to the service of every individual who has contributed to this association, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude above all to the Board of Directors and the leadership for their extraordinary efforts in fostering the unity, cohesion, and resilience that define this organization.
Mr. Dost Mohammad Qayoumi has made a lasting contribution to the organization's institutional foundation by taking on the critical task of preparing the association's bylaws. a cornerstone document that gives the organization its structure, governance, and legal standing. Beyond this foundational work, Mr. Qayoumi has been a consistent and dependable presence at every community event, lending his time, energy, and expertise wherever needed. Mr. Mansoor Rahmanzai and Mr. Masoom Ramzi have distinguished themselves as exceptional organizers and the driving force behind volunteer coordination and event management. Their meticulous planning, calm leadership, and ability to rally volunteers have been indispensab; without their dedication, many of the association's events simply could not have taken place.
The organization also extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Eng. Fareed Wardak for his invaluable assistance in the formal registration of the association and in securing its non-profit status. His guidance and expertise through the legal and administrative process were essential in establishing GCA as a recognized, legitimate organization, laying the groundwork for everything that has followed.
We are deeply indebted to the service of each and every individual who has contributed to this association, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude above all to the founders, the Board of Directors and the leadership for their extraordinary efforts in fostering the unity, cohesion, and resilience that define this organization.
